1 Book, 1 Pen donation Entices Almajiris in school Enrolment in Gombe

The recent donation of books, pens and other writing materials by the 1 GAME Campaign to school pupils in Gombe has triggered a massive influx of parents seeking admission into primary school for their children.

At the Idi Primary School, Gombe where the first donation of books and pens to school children was made, a large number of parents including those who had previously sent their children to almajiri schools were seen on Thursday morning trying to register their children for the new session.

The parents later told 1 GAME’s Mohammed Awwal that they wanted their children to enroll in schools that will assist them with the tools they need to achieve better learning.

“I want my child to have a free book and pen, which is why I have brought him here,” said Abubakar after registering his child in school.

Another father who gave his name as Sadiq said he was thrilled when he heard about the book and pen donation to children.

“I haven’t seen a thing like this before. I was surprised when I heard it. As you can see, all of us are bringing our children here.”

The 1 GAME Campaign as part of its 1 Book, 1 Pen Initiative began donation of books and pens to primary schools in Gombe on Tuesday with the first recipients being children from Idi School, one of the biggest primary schools in the State.

The gesture is aimed at encouraging vulnerable children to enroll and stay in school.
