2013 Federation Cup: Idoko, Oboabona Seeks Revenge over Nasarawa United

Mike Idoko, the Chairman of Ondo State Football Agency and captain of Sunshine Stars of Akure, Godfrey Oboabona have vowed the club will pick a vital victory against Nasarawa United on Wednesday at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja.

Mr Mike while expressing delight with return to the Confluence capital, declared that Sunshine Stars are back in Lokoja to rewrite their wrongs against Nasarawa United when they clash in the 2013 Federation Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday.

He noted that the club is more motivated and focused on ensuring the dream trip to the finals of the tournament in Lagos is achieved, blaming the early exit suffered in the last edition of the Federation Cup on continental engagement.

“I’m happy we are back in Lokoja to face the same team we played last term – I’m believe the opportunity has presented itself to us to make right our errors – we are motivated and prepared to re-challenge Nasarawa United in course to reach the finals but they should be prepared for an uneasy battle,” the Football administrator declared.

Meanwhile, Sunshine Stars’ skipper, Godfrey Oboabona who is engaged with the Nigeria’s men National team, Super Eagles in the African Nations Championship, CHAN, has thrown his weight behind his fellow teammates to avenge the last year Federation Cup loss against Nasarawa United.

Despite the absence of quality players to the national team, the current most-capped Homebased Super Eagles central defender believes Sunshine stars has all it takes to defeat Nassarawa United.

“I’m happy we (Sunshine Stars) are playing them (Nasarawa United) again in Lokoja – I trust the confidence of my teammates despite not with them, they can beat them without fear and face the challenge to avenge our former loss – we will make it to the finals,” said Oboabona.

It would be recalled that Sunshine stars was defeated in the 2012 Federation Cup by Nasarawa United after a 3-0 loss at the Confluence stadium to pull a major upset which saw the then CAF continental competition playing Akure club ejected from tournament.
