2013 WAFU Cup: Togo topple Benin to grab Bronze

Defending champions Togo beat Benin 2-1 on Thursday in Kumasi to win bronze at the 2013 Wafu Nations Cup.

The Hawks were hungrier than the Squirrels and shot ahead after the 14th minute from a free-kick.

Kossivi Nouwoklo’s kick took a deflection off the body of a Togo player and that beat goalkeeper Saturnin Allagbe.

It was a tepid display from the two sides and the opening goal happened against the run of play.

Man-of-the-match Jodel Dossou drew Benin level with a powerful and eye-catching strike on 87 minutes.

The Club Africain winger span inside the box on the left and unleashed a thunderbolt which beat goalkeeper Djeheni N’Guessan.

It was a fair result for the two teams taking into account what transpired on the pitch.

After the break, it was the same script as the game lacked firepower.

When all thought the match was heading for a draw, a minute of madness by the defenders of Benin they got punished.

An innocuous cross from the left was connected by Saibou Badarou and centre-back Rock Durand.
