2014 Kogi NUJ: Com Atabor Defends Suspension of Members

Comrade Ali Atabor, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kogi State chapter says the indefinite suspension of erring members was in bid to sanitize the union.

Comrade Atabor swiftly moved to defend the decision on the union leadership to suspensions meted out on “erring” members.

He maintained that members of the Union who have been suspended have grossly abused the ethics of the profession and cannot be spared.

Comrade Ali said most of those who were suspended were investigated by the disciplinary committee before punishments were meted to them to serve as deterrent to others.

He added that he never took any unilateral decision on any erring members as there are records od sitting of the disciplinary committee members.

The union chairman said journalists supposed to be conscience of the nation and could not be allowed in any way to set bad examples for the society.

He averred that any union that lacks discipline will definitely loose its respect before the society.
