Former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, after accreditation at his Uphill Polling Unit, said violence is not worth it, as the development of the nation should not be jeopardised.

“It is my hope that the election will be credible, transparent, honest and acceptable to all Nigerians. Nigerians should remain calm; desist from anything that will lead to violence.”

On his expectation at the end of the election, Babangida said: “I hope whatever way the election turns, like the contestants signed in the peace accord, they will accept the result, and I hope Nigerians will help them accept the result.

”My expectation is that Nigerians should maintain peace in this country. Violence does not do anybody any good. We should please help our leaders, help the contestants, and help the politicians to help themselves to maintain peace.”

In a similar vein, former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, called on the people to go about electioneering with peace.

“Without peace, development cannot be achieved. The people should be peaceful. For democracy to strive, they should embrace peace.”
