The Kogi State police command has said that 4,700 policemen will be deployed for the Saturday re-run election in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi said the policemen would however, be assisted by other military and para-military personnel in the state.

Ogunjemilusi said the decision to deploy such a large number of police personnel for the election into one House of Representatives and six state House of Assembly seats was to ensure that the exercise was free and devoid of any form of violence.

His words, “We have the information that some people will be out to foment trouble but we are also ready to curtail their activities.”

He, however, admonished political office seekers and the parties participating in the election to call their supporters to order as any attempt to plunge the state into violence would be met with appropriate force by security agencies.

Ogunjemilusi further said that the command had already identified violence prone areas in the eastern senatorial axis and had put in place proper machinery to curtail the activities of those who were hell bent on fomenting trouble during the re-run election.

He particularly warned the people of Ajaokuta Community to suspend the their cultural festival billed for Saturday so that hoodlums would not to hijack the process to disrupt the elections.

INEC had fixed Saturday, April 25, for the re-run election into Dekina/Bassa federal constituency, and six House of Assembly seats including Dekina 1, Dekina 11; Ajaokuta; Ofu; Igalamela/Odolu; and Lokoja 11 state constituencies.
