Adeleke Suspends OSIEC Chairman, Other Members

The new Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Monday suspended the Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), Mr Segun Oladitan.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tesleem Igbalaye, in Osogbo also suspended all other six members of the commission.

All the suspensions are with immediate effect according to Igbalaiye.

“The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Adeleke, has directed the immediate suspension of the Chairman of OSIEC, Segun Oladitan, and the following members of the Commission;

I. Mr. Yusuf Oyeniran
II. Alhaja Suibat Adubi
III. Prince Yinka Ajiboye
IV. Mrs. Abosede Omibeku
V. Mr. Dosu Gidigbi
VI. Mr. Wahab Adewoyin

“This suspension is sequel to several petitions bordering on financial impropriety, dereliction of duty, absenteeism and abuse of office against the said Chairman and members of the Commission.

“Pending the outcome of investigation into the allegations against the suspended chairman and members of the Commission, the Secretary to the Commission shall hold forth in running the affairs of the Commission.”

In another development, tension is said to be very high in many parts of the state as motor park union leaders believed to be loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are making moves to take over the various motor parks.

It was however, gathered the moves by pro-PDP unionists were resisted by those loyal to the outgone Governor, Gboyega Oyetola at the New Garrage area in Osogbo, leading to the death of an unidentified man.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) , in a statement released by its acting Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, called on the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkhali Baba, to step in to avert further bloodshed.

“Barely 24 hours after the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, took over power in Osun State, anarchy appears to have taken the centre stage.

“This is why the Osun State chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC) has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Akali Baba Usman to urgently intervene in the ugly security situation in the State.

“The party alleged that over 500 of its members have been attacked in the last 24 hours and a number of properties had been destroyed including APC campaign vehicles, billboards particularly in Osogbo, the state capital,” Lawal stated.
