AIG reveals reduction in 2013 Crime rate in Kogi, Ekiti and Kwara

policeThe AIG Zone 8, Mr Christopher Dega has said visibility policing, Intensive and Efficient Vehicular and foot patrols were responsible for the reduction in crime rate in 2013.

Dega,who stated this while briefing newsmen on efforts in crime prevention and reduction strategies for 2013 in lokoja yesterday.

He noted that the zone 8 comprises of Kogi,Ekiti and Kwara,while noting that community policing was also of great help in reducing crime in the zone.

Dega,noted that the fortified anti -robbery squad and the relationship with other securities agencies was of great immense to reducing crime in the zone.

He commended the state ministry of Justice for the effective prosecution of criminals in the zone.

Dega,who disclosed the statistic sample of some selected crime reduction rate in the zone,said Ekiti was reduced to 23% while Kogi 17% and Kwara 29% respectively.

He noted that the statistics was against the 2012 he did which was 31% for Ekiti,27% Kogi and 34% for Kwara.

The AIG also said those strategies used in the zone was also responsible for the crime -free christmas and new year celebration,as he said there was no robbery case on the high way or any bank attack.

Dega,however noted that Kwara continued to have high rate in crime in the zone due to the States sharing border with other country.

“Kwara states shares border with other country, and the inter-country boundary location coupled with its vast geographical line and high population makes it difficult to curtail crime,”He said.

Dega,however promised tight security during the Ekiti elections and primaries before the year runs out.

He called on the general public to look into security cases,saying that security was a general issue.
