The Akwa Ibom State governor, Dr Godswill Akpabio, has won the 22nd edition of the African Youth Man of the Year Award in recognition of his contribution to his role in empowering youth in the continent.

In a press statement released in Abuja, the Chairperson of the 2013 Award Planning Committee, Marcapello Mohsen, said, “The award is based on outstanding performance in areas of education, job creation and encouragement of young people in governance and decision making.”

She said Akpabio will take over from President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania, who won the Award in 2012.
