The chairman of Ajaokuta Local Government Area, and Kogi state ALGON chairman, Aloysius Okino has called on well to do individuals in the society to join hands with all tires of government to advance the education of the populace for a secured future.
The chairman stated this in Adogo headquarters of the council over the weekend, during the presentation of bursary award to 200 indigent students of Ajaokuta origin in tertiary institutions across the country under his pet project, “Aloysius Okino Scholarship Scheme”.
He noted that access to quality education by the citizenry, is the only worthy legacy that can be bequeathed to the younger generation, saying that everyone must work towards reviving the ailing educational system for a guaranteed future development and growth.
While maintaining that all hands must be on deck to arrest the decay in the educational system, Okino noted that no society can develop its potentials to its fullest without the needed investment in the training of the future generation.
He said in addition to the N10,000 each to the benefiting students as bursary, the foundation has equally procured over 20,000 exercise books to be distributed to schools across the council, while computers and other accessories have been donated to some selected secondary schools in the area.
He encouraged the young graduates in the country not to be despaired in the face of daunting challenges of the moment, stressing that they must rather brace up to the challenge and make the best use out of the situation.
While thanking the people for the support his administration has enjoyed from them, he said even his critics would agree that he has raised the standard bar upon which future leaders would be assessed.
Earlier, the chairman of the Aloysius Okino Scholarship Scheme, Wahab Aka’aba, noted that since human capital development starts with the education of the populace, the gesture of the chairman is a welcome development.
Aka’aba who is a senior lecturer with the Federal College of Education,(FCE), maintained that quality education is the bedrock on which every progressive society in built.
In the face of the financial hardship facing majority of parents in the area, Aka’aba challenged other sons and daughters of the land who are well to do to emulate Mr. Okino by investing in the education of the younger generation for a secured future.
