Anichebe stuns Chelsa to rescue West Brom

Victor Anichebe came off the bench to equalise for West Brom and dashed Chelsea’s bid for the Barclays Premier League title at Hawthorn on Tuesday night.

Branislav Ivanovic’s goal on the stroke of half-time looked to have ensured all three points for Chelsea and extend their lead at the summit to four points.

Spoiler and former Everton man was brought on in the 72 minutes for off-day West Bromwich Albion forward Morgan Amalfitano.

Chelsea was made to rue their missed chances as Anichebe header in the 87th minute rescued a point for West Brom levelled proceedings three minutes from time.

Anichebe’s first goal against Chelsea cost the blues the chance to move four points clear at the top of the Premier League but earning West Brom a share of the spoils.

A result that means a victory for Arsenal in their match against Manchester United at the Emirates on Wednesday will see Arsene Wenger’s side leapfrog back above the Blues.

Anichebe was also on target when the Baggies played out a 1-1 draw with Liverpool last week. West Brom are now 17th on the Premiership table with 24 points from 26 matches.
