Assassinations in Benghazi worry UN

The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has expressed concern over the new spate of assassinations targeting Libyan security agents, especially in the country’s second city of Benghazi.

The Mission condemned the recent attack on a building housing the Libyan Foreign Affairs Ministry in Benghazi, which caused extensive damage.

It called on all stakeholders to intensify efforts towards the re-building of the country’s institutions and ensure the security and stability for the Libyan people.

In his latest report on Libya, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called for the quick re-launch of the all-inclusive dialogue, in a bid to reinforce the country’s unity which, he said, is the prerequisite for the country’s democratic transition.

According to the UN chief, Libya will not achieve sustainable peace and reconciliation without cross-party dialogue.
