A Nigerian police officer, on Tuesday, in Ikorodu area of Lagos allegedly killed a student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure – FUTA – for disobeying the Lagos transport law.
The victim, Kunle, aka Ifa, was hustling with the motorbike to make some money while waiting for the Nigerian government and university lecturers to settle an ongoing strike and call students back to campus.
Nigerian university lecturers called for a strike since July to force the Nigerian government to honour an agreement it reached with the lecturers in 2009. The strike meant millions of Nigerian university students were forced to return home.
The murder of Kunle sparked a brief protest in the community. Chima Onwe, former online editor at Channels Tv, was at the scene and tweeted the incident as it unfolded.
