Nigeria’s U-20 boys defeated the country’s Olympic team 2-1 in a friendly match played in Abuja on Thursday evening.
The heart-lifting result has come less than a week to the U-20 boys’ departure to Burundi for a 2017 CAF U-20 Cup of Nations qualifying match.
Daniel Etor scored for the Olympics –bound Dream Team in the 22nd minute off a powerfully –struck free –kick, but Funsho Bamgboye, who scored the last goal of the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile equalized for the Flying Eagles 10 minutes later.
Victor Osimhen scored the winner for the U-20 side in the 66th minute.
Wolfsburg of Germany striker Osimhen just cannot stop scoring. The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup Golden Shoe winner also struck the winner for the Flying Eagles in their 1-0 defeat Nigeria National League campaigners Kaduna United in a test game on Wednesday. The Kaduna boys were using the match to test their readiness for the start of the new football season.
Kaduna United played to their potential from kickoff and were excellent on the ball, but met a faster and fitter Flying Eagles side who wasted no time to come to the party. Samuel Chukwueze and Orji Okonkwo piled constant pressure from the flanks while Victor Osimhen as usual was a constant threat in attack. The early chances however fell to the visitors whose greatest undoing was their inability to convert begging chances.
A fluid move from the centre orchestrated by team captain Kelechi Nwakali found the gangling Victor Osimhen who wasted no time in slotting a low shot to the far corner beyond the reach of the Kaduna United goalkeeper.
