Bayelsa Intensifies Preparation for Maiden National U-17 Games

Bayelsa State Sports Council has intensified preparations towards effective participation at the maiden edition of National Under-17 photo (1)Games holding in Abuja from December 3-15, 2013.

Already, the state government has given financial approval a month ago to the authorities of sports council to ensure adequate preparations.

Director of sports, Bayelsa State Sports Council, Chief Isaac Mark-Tubo hinted that attention on the youth games is geared towards improving schools' sports and the development of youths through sports.

He disclosed that the council has channeled its energies to discover sports potentials in the rural areas, which necessitated the establishment of zonal sports council offices in all the local government headquarters of the state.

The director praised the efforts of Governor Seriake Dickson for given financial backing to encourage athletes and coaches excel in their various sport and excude confidence that Bayelsa will do well at the national games.

The zonal qualifying campaign of the games is slated for November 5-13,2013 at the six geo-political zones of the country.

The zonal qualifying games will feature basketball, football, volleyball and handball in both male female categories.

South-South zonal holds in Benin,Edo state.

Online registration of the games has commenced while the unvailing of the games' mascot/logo will hold on October 24, 2013 at the National Stadium, Abuja.

The National youth game is aimed at selecting prospective athletes towards the African and World Youth Games expected to hold August,2014.
