Biafra Can Be Handled With Dialogue – North, South Leaders

Some prominent Nigerians on Wednesday, December 9, said dialogue, rather than violence, remained the best way in solving the ongoing agitation for the Biafra republic, Premium Times reports.

The elders who made the call at a meeting held at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Abuja, called for restraint and dialogue in tackling the agitation for a breakaway Biafra republic from Nigeria.

In attendance the meeting had prominent personalities from the north-central, north-east, south-east and south-south regions were in attendance

The session, which was chaired by Maitama Sule, a minister from the first republic, had former governor of Akwa Ibom state and Senate minority leader, Maitama Sule, as guest speaker.

Sule, in his opening remarks underscored the need for unity among all communities in Nigeria. He said all agitations should be handled properly to avoid a breakdown of law and order.

He prayed to God not to allow Nigeria experience another civil war, adding that the nation needed uninterrupted peace to develop.

The former minister harped on the need for justice even as he identified the absence of good leaders and economic frustration as part of the real causes of problems in the country.

In his presentation, Akpabio also noted that the country could not afford another civil war. He said a resort to violence could never be a solution to problems.

Dozie Ikedife, a co-chairman of the forum, also stated that now is the best time to right the wrongs of the past by ensuring justice and fairness across the board.

In a related development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Coalition Support Group, south-south chapter has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to intercede and dialogue with the Pro-Biafra agitators in order for peace to reign in the south-eastern part of the country.

The national vice chairman of the group, made this appeal to the president on Tuesday, December 8 in Abuja. He said the agitators needed to be given a reason to believe in Nigeria.
