The Nigerian Army has raised an alarm about the alleged poisoning of water sources by Boko Haram members in areas captured by the military in what could be a revenge mission.

In a statement released by spokesperson for the 7 Division Nigerian Army, which coordinates the counter-terrorism war, Tukur Gusau, a Colonel, a large number of cattle died after drinking from a pond in Kangallam village along Marte and Abadam axis in Borno State, although no human life was lost.

“Information reaching the Theatre Command, OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE indicates that Boko Haram terrorists have now resorted to poisoning water sources like wells and streams in areas they were dislodged by gallant troops or areas threatened by offensive operations,” Gusau said.

The army called on residents to avoid drinking water from unverified sources, particularly in areas recaptured from the insurgents.
