Brazil2014WCQ: Ethiopia beats CAR, Reaches Playoff Stage

Ethiopia reached the playoffs of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers when it came from behind to beat Central African Republic 2-1 in their match played in Brazzaville, Congo.

This was despite South Africa routing Botswana 4-1 in Durban.

Ethiopia fell behind when Saif Keita scored for CAR in the 23rd minute but goals from Saladhin Ahmed in the 48th minute and Menyahel Teshome in the 61st minute gave Ethiopia the three points and a total of 13 while South Africa managed 11 points.

Botswana ended up with 7 points while CAR had 3 points.

South Africa scored two late goals through Bernard Parker in the 84th minute and a penalty kick in the 89th minute to give Bafana Bafana a convincing victory.

Kermit Erasmus had put South Africa in the lead in the 28th minute and Dean Furman increased the tally to 2-0 just before half time (Eds correct).

Botswana’s Jerome Ramatlhakwane pulled one back for Botswana in the 73rd minute before Parker’s late goals.
