Nigeria’s home based national team has defeated South Africa’s Premier Soccer League side University of Pretoria 3-0 in an African Nations Championship preparatory match on Tuesday morning.
A brace from Tunde Adeniji and Ifeanyi Mustapha ensured Sunday Oliseh’s men eased past the Tuks FC in South Africa’s legislative capital.
In the opening 25 minutes, Sunshine Stars’ forward Adeniji earned a penalty kick after he was pulled down inside the goal area. He however, wasted no chance netting the opener for the Super Eagles.
In the second half, Adeniji fired in the second of the day from nearly 30 yards out while former junior international Mathew netted the third to rattle their hard tackling hosts.
Following the opening clinical victory against the Pretoria based PSL outfit, the Nigerian side will take on Angola on Wednesday. They will later square up with fellow CHAN bound team, Cote d’Ivoire next Monday, January 11.
Earlier, returning head coach Oliseh had expressed delight with the form and fitness level of the team.
“The coach is most impressed with all the boys. They have attained full fitness in Abuja and now he is working on the tactical aspect of the game with them,” Oliseh said.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles are expected to depart South Africa for Kigali, Rwanda on January 15.
