A chieftain and governorship aspirant under the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Kogi State, Engr. George Olumoroti Olushola has attributed the high level of poverty in the State to the collapse in infrastructure, which he said has also crumbled the State economy.george oluromoti

Olumoroti also linked the inability of the State Government to improved on its Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, has another reason for the under development in the State.

Olumoroti who made this declaration in Kabba, recently during a “Sensitization and Empowerment’ programe for people of the Western senatorial axis said the status of the state will remained the same unless the ruling party, PDP, vacate the administration of the State.

According to him, “We have continuously keep talking and tackling the poverty rate of our people through our personal empowerment because the rate of poverty is high. And the reason is not far fetch; there is no infrastructural development in the State; a situation that has also collapse the economy of the State.

“Also, the PDP government has failed to look inward and generate revenue to address the plights of the people. All they do is waiting for the monthly allocation from the Federal Government; most of which is mismanaged or embezzled”.

He however said there is hope for the State if APC is given a chance to rule the State, “The APC leadership theory is that all elected officials under their party must remember that they have a responsibility to the people

“APC has a robust knowledge on how to bring opportunity to farmers and businesses to revamp the economic sector of the State. The manifesto and system of the party make their governors and elected official under the party accountable to the people”.

He also said the party is not only out to take over power from the PDP, but poised to change the people economy, “There is a Blueprint from the party on what to do to change the state status. Presently, there are 21 untapped natural resources in the State. When APC come onboard in 2015, we shall explore the resources to create job for the people and also make gain for the State.

“When people have job you can then ask them to pay tax. Someone who is not employ cannot pay tax. It’s from this tax that we will also use to develop the infrastructure of the State and revamp its economy; so that the people can be rescued from the poverty that has ravaged them”.

Olumoroti however remain optimistic that the sensitisation of the people coupled with a ‘sellable’ candidate that will be picked through a fair and free primary will ensure victory for the party in 2015 general election.
