‘Competent leadership makes the difference’ – Wrestling president lauds Sunday Dare after Nigeria’s historic CWG feat

Nigeria Wrestling Federation president Daniel Igali believes Team Nigeria’s historic Commonwealth Games achievements are a just reward for the ‘competent leadership’ provided by the Sports Minister.

Nigerian wrestlers won three Gold to help Team Nigeria reached the milestone of 12 Gold on Sunday as the country finished as the best African side in this year’s edition in Birmingham.

Overall, Nigeria won a total of 35 medals made up of a record 12 goal, nine silver and 12 bronze to rank seventh on the medal table.

Wresting contributed seven to Team Nigeria’s medal hauls including three Gold, two silver and two bronze from 10 categories and Igali did not only heap praises on his Wrestling contingent’s fantastic performances but also also went on to laud the Sports Minister’s good leadership.

“Nigeria presented 10 Wrestlers at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Won 3 gold, 2 Silver and 2 bronze medals. I’m so so proud of our athletes, coaches and management team. Your dedication and patriotism is unparalleled,” Igali, the Wrestling supremo, wrote on his official Facebook page on Monday.

“With 12 gold medals, team Nigeria had her best gold medal haul ever at the commonwealth Games. Congratulations to the minister of youth and sports, Chief Sunday Dare and his management team for this amazing feat. Almost always, competent leadership makes the difference.

“Many thanks also to all our fans and well wishers at home and in the diaspora for the prayers and support. To Gov. Douye Diri and the Prosperity Government of Bayelsa State, your constant support for the Wrestling team, no doubt, helped make this possible.

“We are eternally grateful. For everyone going back to their various homes from the Birmingham Games, journey mercies and Godspeed.”
