Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Alloy Agu has told Coach Stephen Keshi to use Vincent Enyeama as Eagles first choice goalkeeper in the upcoming matches against South Africa at the Mandela Cup and the 2014 World Cup qualifier against the Flames of Malawi in September 7.

Speaking on Enyeama’s blunders at the FIFA Confederations Cup in June and the attendant criticisms which it attracted, the former Kayserispor safe-hands said in Benin City at the weekend, that any attempt to drop Enyeama for another goalkeeper was going to backfire.

“Enyeama has been doing a very great job for the Super Eagles and I strongly feel that he should retain his starting shirt in the matches against the Bafana Bafana and Malawi. He is the man for the big day and we should trust him to do his best for the country.

“The fact that Enyeama made some mistakes at the Confederations Cup is not enough for Keshi to think of using the other goalkeepers. We all make mistakes and I feel that he has learnt from his mistakes and should be forgiven. He has been there and has done great things for us and it is not fair that because of some blunders we forget all his good works.

“What Keshi needs to do is to keen on encouraging him until we are sure that he has given Nigeria all that he can give. If your first choice goalkeeper is not giving you what you want, you should not make the mistake of kicking him out because you might end up needing him again in the future and it might be too late then”, added Agu.
