Costa Rica 2014: Bala Nkiyu salutes Flamingoes’ Fighting Spirit
The Head Coach of the Nigeria U-17 women national team, Coach Bala Nkiyu, has praised the fighting spirit of his players and expressed confidence that the Flamingoes will be a team to beat in Costa Rica.
The Flamingoes’ saw their hopes for victory shattered when Chidinma Edeji’s second half equalizer for the Flaconets cancelled out their early lead which was scored by the team’s captain, Tessy Biawho at the FIFA Goal Project Centre in Abuja.
The former Niger Tournadoes tactician was impressed by the performance of his team in their first friendly match.
Nkiyu vowed to bring his experience to bear with the Flamingoes having been an assistant to Uche Eucharia with the Super Falcons at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“I must commend the players, they played to instructions and as a team. The draw is good for us and has exposed us as technical crew to seeing some mistakes which will be corrected in our subsequent trainings and friendlies.
“Despite playing against their superior national team, the Flamingoes showed great fighting spirit and that is what we need to succeed at the World Cup though it is our first friendly, but I am sure we will have a good team,” says the Flamingoes Coach.
