CostaRica2014: Ann-Chiejine Pleased As Famingoes Held Delta Queens

The Flamingoes on Wednesday ended their training tour of the Federation in a 1-1 draw with Delta Queens of Asaba in Oleh, Delta state.

The Nigeria U-17 girls previously in Port-Harcourt suffered a 3-1 defeat to Federation Cup queens, Rivers Angels, after recording a 2-1 victory over Nassarawa Amazons in Lafia.

The Coach Bala Nkiyu led wards went into the encounter against Delta Queens with intention to end their tour with a win, but the game ended in a draw.

Chinwe Vera Ihezuo who had scored in all Flamingoes’ training tour friendly games, missed a chance at goal in the 5th minute before her 44th minute goal was ruled for an offside for the first half, ending with no goal from both sides.

However,Second half resumed with Delta Queens’ central-defender Ohale Oshinachi breaking the back of the camel with a bullet shot from a free-kick spot in the 50th minute while seemingly unstoppable Flamingoes’ attacker Chinwe Ihezuo leveled up in the 57th minute.

Meanwhile, Substituted Amina Yabuku and Rashidat both recorded a miss in the last minutes of the game.

Speaking after the game, the Nigeria U-17 assistant Coach, Ann-Chiejine commended the performance of the team and urged them to sustain the fighting-spirit and resilience.

She advised the players to continue playing to instructions and remain focused on making the country proud at the World Cup.

“I am pleased with the performance of the players, they fought resiliently and show great intent to win against Delta Queens today (Wednesday). I will urge them to listen more to us (coaches), with that I’m sure we will make the country proud in Costa Rica,” the first and former Super Falcons goalkeeper said.
