Cote d’Ivoire bids to host 2019, 2021 AFCON
Cote d’Ivoire has expressed its willingness to host the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), the continent’s most prestigious football tournament.
The Ivorian government has already given the green light to Cote d’Ivoire’s Football Federation to make a bid to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the tournament.
If the country fails to win the bid for the 2019 competition, it will bid for the next edition in 2021, according to a government statement.
Ahead of the bid, the Ivorian government said it would refurbish existing sports and other facilities.
PANA recalls that the West African country hosted the 1984 African Cup of Nations, which was won by Cameroon.
