Dekina, Omala Battle for Kogi Governor’s Cup as Kabba, Kogi tango for bronze

Dekina local government will battle their counterparts from Omala in Sunday’s Kogi State Governor’s Cup final match billed for the Lokoja Confluence Stadium on October 4.

In a statement, Mr Augustine Ogunmola, secretary of the state FA said that plans have been concluded to stage a smooth and hitch-free final after crediting the rescheduled match earlier fixed for September 26 for Sallah celebrations.

Ogunmola urged stakeholders to troop out in numbers to the stadium while assuring the grand finale will be a football event to remember.

On the road to all Kogi eastern final, Dekina sneaked past 2-1 Okehi local government in the quarter-final before they overcame Kabba/Bunu 2-1 in the semi-final.

Other finalists, Omala thrashed Igalamela/Odolu 6-0 and Kogi 6-1 in the quarter and semi-final stages respectively.

The football competition which was held for the first time since 2010 and second in 19 years had the participation of the 21 local government areas in the state.

For Omala’s Adams Sanusi,who netted hat-trick against Kogi said his side remain the team with the brightest chance to win the title, insisting they will not underrate Dekina in the final.

Dekina’s captain, Onoja Emmanuel said his side have set their sight on overcoming Omala to lift the governor’s Cup stressing that they are not scared of their fellow-finalists.
