Donors’ confab raises US500 million for Central Africa Republic

About US$ 500 million dollars have been raised at an international conference of donors on Central Africa Republic (CAR).

The money organizers said was for the immediate humanitarian assistance to the African country where 4.6 million people are suffering from political and religious violence.

The European Union (EU) and the UN, co-organizers of the high-level conference, said the money would help deal with ‘at least 90% of the needs of this country that is facing a major humanitarian tragedy’.

At the event, the EU also pleaded with the warring parties to ensure security and the protection of civilians and humanitarian staff so that stability and order will be restored in CAR.
