Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has charged the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, not to be overwhelmed with the barrage of expectations from the citizenry. buhari-1

He stated this yesterday in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, when some women visited him in his Hilltop residence.

Obasanjo said considering the current daunting challenges in the country, all Buhari needed to do is taking the right step within the first three months after he is sworn in as the president.

He observed that what the citizenry is clamouring for is an administration that would turn their situations for better. According to the former president, “Nigeria and Nigerians have a new opportunity in the in-coming administration of Muhammadu Buhari to make the country work for the better again.

“The new opportunity is God-given and the good thing about the next administration is that the man that would head it – Buhari, is neither a green-horn nor a novice in governance.”

Obasanjo expressed confidence in the competence of Buhari, who defeated incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in the just-concluded general elections in the country.

He said Buhari was once at the helm of affairs in the country between December 31, 1983 and August 1985, though as a military Head of State, but noted that he would bring to bear his wealth of experience when he assumes office on Friday as the president of the Federal Republic.

The former president urged Buhari to be honest and truthful in his dealing, noting that Nigerians are quite clever and he should not engage in any cover-up or try to play the ostrich under any circumstances.

He observed that there are great expectations from the people to see the in-coming government sort out things quickly, adding that there is a high level of goodwill locally and internationally in favour of the administration.
