Dreamland Academy 2014 Gold Cup: U15 & U17 Football Tournament begins on August 9th in Abia

All is now set for the 2nd edition of the dreamland academy gold cup youth football tournament. According to the Tournament director Mr. Ndudi Edede the tournament will took place in Ukwa east local government area Abia state, participating clubs will arrive from all parts of the country on Friday 8th of august 2014.

The competition will kick off on Saturday 9th by 3.00 pm after screening of players at Ozaa Secondary Scholl in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State.

The other venues that will host this great tournament are Ascension Junior Seminary, Umuebulungwu and Central School, Obohia in Ukwa East LGA which will host the final on August 16th. you see this tournament is to discover talents and develop them, during this holiday period.

A total of 64 teams are expected to participate in the U-15 & U-17 categories in the 8 day full camped youth football festival. The tournament arguably the largest youth football competition not only in Abia State but the entire South East and South South region.

Prizes will be given at the end of the tournament medals trophies and financial rewards to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams in each categories on the final day.
All registered clubs will receive free gift such as: match balls, T-shirts and diploma certificates.

There will be presentation of merit award to individuals and corporate bodies that distinguished themselves in development and sponsorsing sporting activities in Nigeria.

“I want to say here that this year edition is super because top football personalities are be expected for the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony those expected are Mr Isaac O. Isaac – Director of Sports, Abia State. Hon Ossy Nwamuo – Former Commissioner for sports, Abia State, Adeyinka Adewale – Nigeria Football Federation, John Obuh – Former Flying Eagles coach, Bethel Orji – Chief Coach Heartland FC, Uwakwe Eke – Ex International, Hon Uzoma Abonta – Member Representing Ukwa Constituency at the Federal House of Assembly,Mr Onyi Nwama – Perm Sec Min of Youth Development, Abia State. Ukwa West & East LGA TC Chairmen, Chief Ogunka Adiele John, Sir Mac Wabara, Engr. Evans Arimadu, Traditional Rulers and many more.

It could be recalled that young athletes that was discovered in the first edition of the tournament in 2013 are under scholarship in Dreamland Football Academy where they had the opportunity to play some friendly matches with the Nigeria Nation U-15 & U-17 teams in Abuja and Calabar respectively this year. Also five players who are products of this competition has had invitation at different time to the Nigeria National youth teams. Ndudi conclude.

As usual, the major objective of this tournament is to provide high quality competition to all participating teams, discover young talents for professionalism, promote education through sports, promote friendship amongst youths in different States and also showcase the culture, tradition and customs of Ukwa people.
