Edo state government has donated the sum of N10 million and two hundred bundles of roofing sheets to victims of a recent rainstorm which wreaked havoc in Ozalla community in Owan West Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole announced the donation yesterday during his on-the-spot inspection of the level of damage in the community.
During his visit to the Onotare of Ozalla, HRH Albert Aieloshan, Okpamen VII, in his palace, Oshiomhole said: “the disaster that occurred here was an act of God but we thank God that from all the report , no life was lost. Buildings can be destroyed, it can be rebuilt, I have seen some of the buildings and they were very badly affected.
“I saw a very elderly woman whose roof was blown off by the rainstorm and she is now homeless. I have seen several other buildings.
“What happened has brought untold hardship to many people in Ozalla, but God will use men and women of goodwill to bring succor and relief to the people of this community.
He said “I would have sent relief material much more earlier but I insisted to see the extent of the devastation, so that is why I have come.”
He commended the efforts of the Local Government Council Chairman and his management for their support towards the victims.
Oshiomhole said.”We in APC believe that government is about the people. We identify with the people when they are happy and we also identify with them when they are in distress and government must identify with the people at the time of need.”
He said a committee will be set up to properly identify those affected and determine how to share the N10 million donation, adding that Government may consider an upward review of the donation if it is determined that the N10 million donation is not enough to cushion the effects of the disaster.
The Onotare of Ozalla, HRH Albert Aieloshan thanked the Governor for his quick response to the alleviating the sufferings of the people, saying it shows that Comrade Oshiomhole is a listening Governor who has the interest of the people at heart.
He noted the Governor’s development efforts in all parts of the state saying the state has not witnessed anything like the transformation which has taken place since its inception.
