Ekiti 2014: Fayose’s Withdrawal Posters Flood Ado-Ekiti

Posters indicating that former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has dropped his governorship ambition in the 2014 election adorned strategic locations in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The posters, with the inscription: “Thank you Ekiti Kete, I am not contesting again” appeared less than 24 hours after Fayose, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, was suspended from the party by the Mr. Makanjuola Ogundipe-led State Working Committee (SWC).

The posters appeared side by side with second term campaign posters of Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

But in a chat with journalists, the former governor denied knowledge of the posters, saying those he described as his detractors pasted them.

He said: “I did not know anything about the pasting of my posters. On what basis should I pull out from the race? It was done by
those who are afraid of my popularity.” “Absolutely nothing will stop me from going ahead with my intention to contest the governorship election in 2014.”

It will be recalled that the PDP on Tuesday suspended Fayose and three members of the SWC for anti-party activities and insubordination following last week’s attack on the party’s secretariat in Ado-Ekiti.

This was as another PDP governorship aspirant, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, accused the ruling ACN members of attacking his supporters at a meeting at Efon Alaaye in the Efon Local Government Area.

Adeyeye, in a statement by the Director General of Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM), Hon Bisi Kolawole, described the attack as worrisome.

He said: “Persistent attacks on law-abiding PDP members are capable of throwing Ekiti State into chaos, if allowed to continue.
