EU condemns killing of 2 aid workers in CAR

The European Union (EU) has condemned, in the strongest term, the killing of two aid workers in Central African Republic (CAR), stressing that it is unacceptable that people working to save lives are the target of armed groups.

In a press statement Wednesday in Brussels, the EU said that the two victims were employed by ACTED, a French non-governmental organization (NGO) partner of the EU in Central Africa Republic, where the humanitarian situation is tragic and where everything must be done to ensure the protection of humanitarian workers.

The EU said it continuously monitors activities of NGOs operating in CAR where atrocities, including summary executions, torture, sexual violence, extortion, looting of houses and fields, are the order of the day.
