EU to Partner Nigeria on Oil Theft
The European Union (EU) mission in Nigeria has reiterated its readiness and commitment to partner with Nigeria on its fight against oil theft in the country.
The Trade Counsellor of the Delegation to Nigeria, Massimo De Luca said this at the weekend in Abuja during a press briefing ahead of the 2nd EU-Nigeria Business Forum to be hosted in Lagos State this week.
He said the international body would assist the country through military assistance and intelligence gathering.
Luca said: “This is a very sensitive matter which really calls for a very close cooperation at all levels, not just at economic levels but also at political and military levels.”
The Counsellor said that “the European Union, in cooperation with member states, is developing a comprehensive Golf of Guinea strategy which will also look into the issue of illicit transaction into the oil theft and may also go into technology issue and other things.”
