Ex-Enugu Rangers, Sylvanus Nsofor Dies

The death has been announced of a football legend of our time, Mr. Sylvanus Nsofor.

He passed away on Wednesday, 16th October at the General Hospital, Calabar after a very brief illness.

He was aged 57.

Late Sylvanus Nsofor began his football career with Merchant F.C of Calabar 1977-1978; Rovers F.C of Calabar 1978-1982; Bendel United of Benin 1982-1985; Played in the African Winners Cup Final with Bendel United in 1984; Rangers F.C of Enugu 1985-1989.

Scored the first goal at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu in 1986 during the commissioning ofthe Stadium.

He retired from active football in the 1989/90 football season due to injury.

Funeral arrangements as released by the Family indicate that he will be buried at his home town, Nnewi in Anambra State on the 21st of November 2013.
