Federation Cup: Niger Tornadoes pip Zara Studio 3-0, joins last 32

By Anthony Obaseki – Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna has qualified for the next round of Nigeria’s Federation Cup after thrashing Zara Studio FC of Kebbi 3-0.

The match was played at the Gusau Township Stadium, Gusau the Zamfara State capital.

Tornadoes opened the score with only two minutes into the game as Mohammad Ndayebo muscled his way through Zara defence line to score.

From that the relatively unknown team began to torment the 3rd placed Nigeria National League side and held on for the game to end 1-0 in the first half.

What Tornadoes technical adviser Godwin Uwau might have told his boys worked well as they came back into the second half more purposeful and with their ping pong passes continued to dominate the game and confided the Kebbi based team in their half.

However in the 73rd Minute Yahaya Yusuf made it two for the NNL side and on the 90th minute Omolayo Ibrahim completed the scoring.

The goals could have been higher but Tornadoes players were found wanting while the clear chance that came to Zara Studio to get a consolation goal was wasted over the bar.

Speaking after the match Media Officer of Niger Tornadoes FC George Daniya said that they went with a game plan of not underrating any team.

Mr. Daniya said that they knew that they were going to get a stern test but saying that Tornadoes overwhelmed their opponents because they were more exposed and have been long in the system.

”We treat all our matches with seriousness we don’t look down on teams. We are aware that each match has its own style so we adjust to it.

”If Zara could reach this stage then they must be good, that was the philosophy we took into the game, we now shift our attention to the next match as well our remaining NNL matches” he stated.

He added that everything in the club was going on well and all hands are on deck to ensure that success was achieved for team.

Daniya said that as they awaits to know her next Federation Cup opponent, they are already put strategy on ground to plot Adamawa United downfall in Yola when the NNL resumes.
