The Federal Government on Wednesday, opposed an application for bail by a former Managing Director of Nigeria Security Minting and Printing Company, Emmanuel Okoyomon, seeking release from extradition detention on health grounds.
On June 26, 2015, Okoyomon’s application for bail was refused by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, filed similar application before the appellate court for his “deteriorating medical conditions” in prison.
At Wednesday’s resumed hearing, Justice Datti Yahaya heard Okoyomon’s bail application seeking his release from detention pending the determination of his appeal.
Earlier this year on May 4, the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered his extradition to the United Kingdom within 30 days to face criminal charges preferred against him in the foreign land, which he has appealed against.
But, the appeal court has reserved ruling on the fresh bail application following an order from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation.
