Fifa 2018 World Cup African Qualifier: Draw Pairs Nigeria with Zambia, Cameroon & Algeria

Nigeria will face Cameroon, Zambia and Algeria in Group B of the final qualifying round round for the Fifa 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Super Eagles were among 20 African teams involved in the third round draw of the African qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in Cairo, Egypt on 24 June.

Though currently without a substantive coach, the 2013 African champions will be hoping to make a back-to-back qualification to the World Cup after last 2014 outing in Brazil.

But must overcome reigning African best team Algeria aside less fancied Zambia and troubled Cameroon to clinch the group ticket to reaching the finals in Russia.

Algeria knocked Nigeria out of the race to the 1982 FIFA World Cup, but Nigeria also overpowered Algeria to qualify for the 1994 finals in USA.

Nigeria beat Algeria 3-0 to lift her first –ever Africa Cup of Nations title, on home soil in 1980, but the Fennecs avenged by beating the Eagles 1-0 to also nick their first African title, on home soil, ten years later.

Cameroon stopped Nigeria from reaching the 1990 FIFA World Cup finals, winning 1-0 in Yaounde in a group contest even though Nigeria won the home leg 2-0 in Ibadan. In Yaounde, only weeks after the death of Samuel Okwaraji, Nigeria needed a draw to shove aside the Lions but lost 1-0.

In a friendly in Belgium in October last year, the Super Eagles steamrolled the Lions 3-0.

Tunisia will hope to overcome Libya, Congo DR and Guinea in Group A to snatch ticket, while reigning African champions Cote d’Ivoire will be aiming to topple Mali, Gabon and Morocco to seal a spot in Group C.

South Africa will confront high-flying Cape Verde, Senegal, Burkina Faso in Group D to make the finals, while in Group E, it will royal battle between Egypt, Uganda and Ghana to the sole ticket.

The final race to qualifying to the Russia 2018 football event will begin between 3–11 October, 2016.
