The Audu/Faleke Political Organisation has described allegations made against Hon James Faleke yesterday by a member of Kogi State House of Assembly, Friday Sani that he was responsible for the crisis in the Assembly as preposterous and irresponsible.

Sani made the allegation while speaking on Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily.

According to Sani, Hon Faleke was the one that instigated the National Assembly to take over Kogi State Assembly and that that was the reason why the Group of 5(G5)renegade members of the Assembly to which he belongs refused to respect the resolutions of the National Assembly on the issue.

But in a statement, the Director, Media and Publicity, Audu/Faleke Political Organisation, Hon Duro Meseko described Sani as a political merchant bent on destroying democratic institutions in Kogi State.

“This is not the first time Friday Sani would seek to turn an otherwise very serious national issue bothering on the rule of law and respect for constituted authority to an irresponsible personal attack against the person of our highly respected leader, Hon Faleke. But we are not in the least surprised because democracy unfortunately has a way of throwing up the best and the beast in any dispensation. But let the likes of Sani and his paymasters be educated that the National Assembly is an independent institution with patriotic men of and women of honesty and integrity who are interested in deepening democracy in the country. These are no men who can be swayed by filthy lucre nor mesh of pottage from any paymaster. It is therefore manifestly ludicrous and irresponsible for anybody to lower the esteem of this great institution on the alter of political expediency”, he stated.

In his words, “In case Sani and his paymasters do not know, the whole world is daily watching with incredulous dismay the theatre of the absurd playing out in our dear State where a group of 5 members in a 25 member Assembly has been sitting and taking illegal decisions to the exclusion of the remaining 20. To the likes of Sani and his ilk, 5 is greater than 20! Every reasonable being knows that there is no way 5 can be greater than 15 or 20 as the case may be. It is therefore the height of political and legislative rascality for Sani to daydream that the impunity being unleashed on Kogi people by the so-called G5 could go unchallenged by men of conscience and goodwill, including Hon Faleke who is a principal stakeholder in the State. Let us agree without conceding Sani,s argument that G5 is now G10 but is G10 greater than the remaining G15? Which of the two groups are in majority?
Why should a minority group in a legislature enjoy state powers and support to oppress the majority?”.

According to Hon Meseko, it is not too late for the G5 legislators to wean themselves off the hooks of their paymasters by aligning with rule of law and decency.

“It is in the interest of these young men to turn a new leaf by retracing their steps from the cesspool of impunity and bringandage and embrace decorum in order to move the state forward. The current unfortunate brinkmanship being displayed would only serve to draw the state backwards developmentally. They should be mindful of what posterity would record against each and everyone of them”.

“Hon Faleke has said it over and over again that he is not sponsoring anybody nor group in Kogi Assembly but that his interest is in the development of the state. He has also maintained that he was not responsible for the takeover of the Assembly by the National Assembly. But no reasonable Kogite would say that he or she is happy with what is going on in the state. Our state has daily become the butt of jokes across the civilised world for the wrong reasons. The earlier the Assembly members seek amicable solution to crisis the better for our dear state”.
