The newly appointed Managing Director of Warri Wolves, Davidson Owumi has accepted his new assignment, just as he called on all stakeholders in the game of football in Delta State to support him and his board members towards building a formidable team that will be a cynosure of all.
Owumi, speaking at a stakeholders meeting held at the Warri City Stadium, yesterday, said that the meeting became necessary to have a first hand information and advice from all stakeholders as he cannot succeed without the contribution of all who have a stake in the game of football.
Those who attended the stakeholders meeting includes members of the Delta State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association (SWAN), Coaches Association, Ex-players, Members of the Supporters Club, Referees Association and other interest groups who game to offer their advice to the new Managing Director.
He said that he was not ready to accept the job except stakeholders in the state promise him of their unalloyed support, adding that the job was out of his comfort zone in spite of the fact that he has traversed the nooks and crannies of this country in the course of executing the job he only knows how to handle.
While saying that even though he has succeeded in the job with a track record that is there to speak for itself as a player, manager, administrator when he even rose to becoming a Special Adviser to the Enugu State Governor while Managing Rangers International F.C., he noted that he was not a magician as he needed people to succeed.
Owumi said that the job being a familiar terrain, he has the ability and cavity to turn around the club to attract both local and international support, adding that his 6 months sojourn as the Chairman of the Nigeria Premier League where he raked in Three Billion Naira in such a short period, is a testimony to the fact that he has the magic wand to transform Warri Wolves when given the conducive environment.
“We want to bond so that jointly we can pursue this vision of taking Warri Wolves to the next level. If I can achieve result in another man’s land, I will do well here when given the needed support. My team will work with the coaches in our youth teams because I believe in grassroot football development. In Rangers there is no year that we don’t take six players from the feeder team and upgrade them to the senior team.
Stakeholders present at the meeting poured echo minimum on the new Managing Director of Warri Wolves Football Club saying that they were confident that he will deliver on his promise. They were of the opinion that the new man should be given the freedom to operate as it was the only he could succeed in building a formidable side.
They pledged their support for the newly appointed Management side, saying that it was their desire to see him succeed. They warned him not to listen to gossips as there a thousand and one persons who may want to enjoy his attention by providing him with information that may not be relevant to his new assignment.
