Golden Eaglets depart for Niger on February 13

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets will leave for Niger Republic for the 2015 Caf U-17 Championship on February 13,2015.

The Eaglets spent some time training in Abuja and Kaduna but the Emmanuel Amuneke tutored team left for Sokoto on Friday and will commence serious training soonest at the Digiya Stadium.

A top official of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh told Goal that the football house is working round the clock to secure a friendly match with Mali U-17 side before the end of their practice sessions in Sokoto.

He said the NFF deemed it fit to camp the Golden Eaglets in Sokoto because of the sunny weather in Niger Republic adding that it will be of advantage to the U-17 side when they get to the venue of the competition.

Fresh assured that the Eaglets will be ready for their Group A foes, Niger Republic, Guinea and Zambia when the championship commences on February 15.

“We are assuring Nigerians that the Golden Eaglets will be ready for the African Championship and we have sent them to Sokoto where we believe they will properly get acclimatized to the weather condition in Niger Republic,” said Fresh.

“We are also discussing with Mali in a bid to secure a friendly match. They will leave for the venue of the U-17 Championship on next week Friday.”

Amuneke’s lads will play their first match of the competition against hosts Niger Republic on February 15 at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché, Niamey before taking on Guinea at the same venue on February 18 and will tackle Zambia on February 21 at Stade Municipal, Niamey.

Nigeria came second at the last Caf U17 Championship hosted by Morocco but went ahead to stun the world in the United Arab Emirates emerging as champions.
