Gov Kwankwaso Bags AFAN Award, Pledges to Focus more on Irrigation

Kano state governor, Rabi’u Kwankwaso has said that his administration will focus more on irrigation in view of its of the abundant water resources and arable land in the state.

He stated this while receiving an award as the Grand Transformer of Agriculture by Kano state branch of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, adding that because agriculture is the mainstay of the state’s economy, the government will invest proactively in the sector.

Governor Kwankwaso explained that so far, the state government has spent billions of Naira in providing agricultural input and support to farmers in addition to establishing six agriculture based institutes aimed at imparting modern farming techniques of youths and women.

While thanking AFAN for finding him worthy of the award, the governor noted that it would personally encourage him to continue to put in his best for accelerated agricultural development in the state and the nation at large.

Presenting the award, the state branch chairman of AFAN, Alhaji M.T. Bello explained that the honour was in recognition of the governor’s contribution to agricultural development particularly the N1 billion loan facility to farmers in the state.

The chairman used the occasion to present baskets of assorted vegetables including cabbage, onion, pepper, tomato and pawpaw as well as 5 bags of assorted grains to the governor in appreciation of his effort to enhance food security and agricultural production in the state.

Meanwhile, Governor Kwankwaso has honoured by the National Association of Kano state Students, NAKSS. He said while receiving the award that the bold step taken by his administration to give free education at all levels was to make Kano a model of development in Nigeria.

The governor challenged parents and guardians to take advantage of this development by giving their children sound education as it is the best legacy they can bequeath their offspring.

In his speech earlier, the President National Association of Kano state Students, NAKSS, Usman Sani Shu’aibu Mai Dala praised governor Kwankwaso for introducing the free education policy and for initiating several empowerment progammes for youths in the state.
