Governors resolves to collaborate with the Federal Govt. on solid minerals


The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has resolved to collaborate with the Federal Government on solid minerals development.

The forum resolved at this late Wednesday night during a meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.

NGF Chairman and Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari, who read the meeting’s four-point communique to State House correspondents in the early hours of today, did not entertain questions.

He said: “After a comprehensive presentation made by the Minister of State, Solid Minerals Development, Abubakar Bwari, members resolved to partner with the ministry and other key stakeholders to create an enabling environment for the sector to act as catalyst for job creation, revenue generation, industrialization, environmental sustainability and inclusion”

Yari also disclosed that based on the presentation by the chairman of the States Peer Review Mechanism Steering (SPRM) Committee, Justice Muhammed Uwais, on revised tools and procedures to simplify SPRM operations, the NGF lauded the steering committee for its contributions to the implementation of the programme.

The governor said the forum also launched the revised SPRM base document with a view to enhancing good governance and service delivery in states.

He also disclosed that said the NGF formally congratulated the newly-inaugurated governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, and welcomed him into its fold.

Bello attended the NGF meeting for the first time few hours after he took oath of office as governor of Kogi State.

Our correspondent reports that this was the first meeting of the Nigeria Governors Forum this year.
