Association of Professional Footballers of Nigeria, APFON, has called on players of Giwa FC and Nembe City not to panic even as their clubs face expulsion from the Nigeria Premier League.

The two clubs were expelled from the league by the League Management Company, LMC for failing to ‘substantially comply with requirements for registration’.

The President of APFON and ex-international Dahiru Sadi said the association is doing its best to protect the future of the players.

He said APFON is meeting with Nembe City and Giwa FC managements to see how the two clubs would handle the issue of their players who may not be part of the league, if they are eventually expelled.

Sadi said it is the responsibility of his association to ensure the welfare of its members and so it would not fold its hand and watch the future of the affected players suffer under the present circumstances.

The former Ranchers Bees and Super Eagles midfielder said “APFON as you are aware is always there to safeguard the interest of Nigerian professional football players.

“We want to encourage players of Nembe City and Giwa FC to remain calm as we try to protect their interest. We all know what is happening but they should not be allowed to suffer for what is not their fault.

“Very soon we shall come out with a definite position on the issue on ground. The players’ future and interest must be protected at all times”, he said.
