ike ucheIkechukwu Uche was on target for Villarreal on Sunday afternoon as his club secured a 2-1 away win against Real Sociedad at the Estadio Municipal de Anoeta.

A 69th minute goal from the Nigerian put the Yellow Submarine sealed win for Villarreal after he had set up Giovani dos Santos in the 26th for the opener in the last game of the Spanish La Liga.

Giovani made an excellent run down the hosts defence and as he was about to be closed down on the edge, he slipped the ball to Uche, who drove home a classy finish.

Uche’s tally place him in 13th place on the Liga goal scorers chart and tied with Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca and Celta Vigo’s Nolito on 14 goals.

He also holds the record for the highest scoring Nigerian in Spain after breaking Finidi George’s haul of 11 goals with Real Betis in the 1990s.

Villareal will now compete in next season’s Uefa Europa League after placing sixth with 59 points from 38 matches.
