I’ll act in accordance with electoral law, vows new INEC boss, Yabuku

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, on Monday vowed to discharge of his function in accordance with the electoral act and the constitution.

Yakubu, who disclosed this briefly after his inauguration by President Muhammadu Buhari, said that he will not find it difficult to adhere to the rule of law, noting that “the constitution is very clear”.

On effectively carrying out his task, he said, “the roles and responsibilities of INEC are very clearly spelt out and the provisions of the electoral act are also very clear.

The INEC boss admitted “responsibility is to ensure that in whatever we do, we are guided by the letter and spirit of the constitution. And these we are going to do with courage”.

He stressed that “whatever we need to do, we will ensure that this is done courageously and according to the law”.
