Independence Cup Kickoffs in Lokoja – Kings/Queens College Progressed

The much anticipated Independence Cup featuring football competition among secondary schools in Lokoja kicked off yesterday with pomp.

The opening ceremony took place around 9 am in the morning. The Chief Executive Officer of GeeTouch World and Events, Grace Adamu led other participating partners to declare the event open.

The first match, which took place at Army Barracks Football Pitch, was a goal-feast as Scintilate College, Lokoja Walloped Christfield College 7-0.

Star striker Victor Moses nets 4 goals, while Emenike Samuel, Okpanachi Justice and Bolu Isaac were also on the score sheet.

The second match featured Kings & Queens College and Arigbede College. The match which started at exactly 4pm at Baptist College Football Pitch along Ganaja road. Kings & Queens team was captained by Mathias Bernard while Arigbede was captained by Joseph Gwatana.

The match was a tussle as both side worked hard to outwit each other until Kings & Queens exciting midfielder, Israel Agagwu broke the deadlock when a converted a penalty just 21 minutes into the first half.

Arigbede mounted much pressure on Kings and Queens to level up. Their efforts almost yielded positive results in the 38th minutes with a brilliant shot from Onimisi Abdulkareem. However, the effort went wide.

The second half was not less exciting as Joseph Gwatana, Adulkareem Onimisi and Abass Salami made brilliant attempts to score for Arigbede. The match ended 1-0 in favour of Kings and Queens.

Elijah Emmanuel, an SSS1 student of Kings and Queens was voted Man of the Match for his exceptional performance.
