Information Chapel wins Kwara NUJ Inter-Chapel Soccer Tourney


The Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Pharmacist Kale Ayo Nuhu has commended the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for promoting a keep fit platform for members of the Union with the just concluded Kwara NUJ Inter-Chapel Football competition.

Pharmacist Kale Ayo made the commendation yesterday during the final match of the competition decided at the Kwara Football Academy pitch.

While praising the players, whom he said are mostly youths, Pharmacist Kale Ayo, who chaired the ocassion charged the NUJ to encourage other aspects of exercise like the walking and jogging exercise and other, especially for the older journalists.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Alhaji Mahmud Babatunde Ajeigbe said that the other Chapels that did not participate in the competition will be encouraged do so in the next edition, adding that the competition will continue yearly.

Alhaji Ajeighe said that the competition is not about winning but about participation.

The Chairman of Kwara NUJ, Mallam Biodun Abdulkareem said that the competition was introduced to further strengthen the unity and love among members, and to also promote fitness.

Mallam Abdulkareem, who said that that NUJ in Kwara is a united family added that the Union will enlarge the scope to include other sports like table tennis and other games.

He commended the state government for its contineous support to the NUJ, while also urging the government to fully motivate the journalists in the state for better productivity through prompt payment of salaries.

Correspondents’ Chapel defeated NTA 9-1 to win the third place prize, while Information Chapel defeated Kwara TV 3-1 on penalties after goaless draw at regulation time.

Seun Ogunlewe of Kwara TV was picked as the Best Player of the tournament, while Yinka Owolewa of the Correspondents Chapel, who scored seven goals in a single match emerged as the Highest Goal Scorer. NTA Ilorin got the award for the Most Disciplined Team.

Among those present at the ocassion are the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communication, Mrs Rhoda Ajiboye, Chairman of Kwara FA, Mallam Busari Ishola, the Director of Sports, Malam Tunde Kazeem and Chairmen of various Chapels,
