Injured Oshoala, Ordega, two others to miss Olympic qualifier in Equatorial Guinea

Nigeria Women national quartet of injured Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega, Josephine Chukwunonye and Onome Ebi will miss the crucial second qualifying round, second leg clash for the Rio 2016 Olympics against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, Goal reports.

The Super Falcons will travel to the two-time African champions for the second leg clash in Bata. In Abuja, the first leg at the National Stadium ended 1-1, a result that put Nigeria’s qualification hopes on the knife edge.

But the trio of Ordega, Onome and Chukwunonye have been held up to by their overseas clubs due to league assignments and also becuase the Falcons’ reverse fixture in Bata was fixed a day after the Fifa free window deadline date of August 1.

Assisat Oshoala is the fourth key player, who will not be available as she is been sidelined for upto at least two months after she suffered a knee injury against Notts County for Liverpool Ladies.

Goal learnt that the availability of overseas-trio of captain Evelyn Nwabuoku, Desire Oparanozie and Ngozi Okobi who are yet to join their various clubs have lifted the hopes of Coach Christopher Musa Danjuma.

If the African champions advance past Equatorial Guinea, they will face either South Africa or Kenya in the third qualifying round fixtures of the women’s football event.

The Super Falcons did not qualify for the London 2012 Olympics after they were stopped by the Indomitable lionesses of Cameroon in the final round.
