Intl Handball Event: Nigeria win two gold medals in Sweden

Nigerian teams finished with two gold medals at an invitational handball event which was held in Sweden.

An event that saw the participation of 58 teams,the U-16 and U-13 Nigerian teams won the gold medals in their categories.

Five teams (four male and one female teams) represented Nigeria at the tourney that took place from June 30 and July 5.

“As a part of our plans of developing the sport at the youth level, we went to the competition with four male teams; U-13, 16 and 21 and one U-21 female team. The female lost out in the semi-finals while two of our male teams won the gold medal in their category. We used the tournament to expose them for the future competitions which we have,” President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria, Yusuf Dauda was quoted as saying on The Punch.

Nigeria by virtue of their win maintained its 50th position in the International Handball Federation rankings for the month of June and are now seventh in Africa.
