Jordaan voted new SAFA chieftain
Danny Jordaan was on Saturday voted as new South African Football Association (Safa) president as their general congress at Helderkruin Estate in Johannesburg.
He replaces Kirsten Nematandani who did not enter the race as he failed to secure a nomination for the presidential race. The race was between Jordaan and Mandla ‘Shoes’ Mazibuko and was described as a tightly-contested affair.
Jordaan was nominated by 32 of the 52 Safa regions. The elections were nearly disrupted due to issues around representation from a number of regions. Two regions – Xhariep and Sisonke – took their matter to the Johannesburg South High Court on Friday but these were dismissed.
Safa Capricorn region also had an outstanding dispute which was heard on Saturday morning at the Johannesburg South High Court. This issues was dismissed and referred to Sascoc, who were able to address the matter before the elections.
